Finally spotted the elusive penguin!  They have several species here.  The Blue Eyed Penguins are the smallest and only active at night but we’ve seen a few in nesting boxes.  Watched 3 Yellow Eyed Penguins along the beach and then made their way to their nests.  Most of the penguins are tagged so they can track their travel patterns and monitor population which is declining.

    Next stop...Greenland!
On the flight back from Iceland, we were rewarded with amazing, clear views of Greenland.  Despite the name, the country is mostly covered in ice and snow, unlike Iceland. The views of the snow capped mountains, ice fields and glacial lakes were breathtaking!  Will have to return one day to get a closer look, but it was a perfect ending to an awesome trip!

    Another Northern Lights Show!
Caught this amazing display of Aurora lights on the way to my next stop.  Almost missed it because the sky was lit up behind me instead of to the north where I was heading.  This show lasted the longest, about 1.5 hr off an on.  Amazing color and patterns!

    East Coast
The journey along Iceland's East Coast is filled with rugged coastlines and amazing mountain scenery, or at least what could be seen thru al the fog and clouds.  Visited several towns along the coast including Seydisfjordur which is a quaint harbor town located at the end of one of the most spectacular drives I've encountered so far.  The scenery along the way was just breathtaking!  Also enjoyed a Mitty moment as this was the road that he longboarded down which includes the huge waterfall he passes by.

    Glacial Lagoon
The glacial lagoon is incredible!  And there is an ice beach where the icebergs floating out to sea wash up on the shore and continue to get shaped by the crashing waves.  Truly a spectacular sight!

    Vatnajokull Glacier
Spent the last few days exploring Vatnajokull National Park which is home to the world's largest ice cap outside the poles. It dominates the entire region with rivers of frozen ice pouring down the valleys. Some great hiking and plenty more waterfalls.  Also visited Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon glacial lagoons where wind and water sculpt the floating icebergs eventually making their way to the sea.
